| Build Your Game |
Good Sports, Good Mental Health - Build Your GameGood mental health builds stronger clubs and helps everyone lift their game.Sporting clubs are at the heart of many rural communities. The Australian Drug Foundation’s Good Sports program has had great success working with local sports clubs to change the way communities think about drinking and sport. Build Your Game joins with sports clubs to help members learn how good mental health benefits a player’s game and strengthens the club in the local community. Build Your Game is supported by beyondblue: the national depression initiative which works to raise awareness about depression, anxiety and related alcohol and drug problems. Depression and anxiety are common in our community. Being able to recognise the signs of depression and anxiety is the first step to finding help, or helping someone else. Depression and anxiety won’t fix themselves and getting help is sometimes as simple as making a phone call. Often mental health problems are linked to drinking habits that cause problems, or worsen an existing mental health problem. Where is Build Your Game?Build Your Game (Phase One) is being delivered and evaluated in Northern Victoria, the NSW Riverina and Tasmania. Build Your Game is delivered through partnerships between the Australian Drug Foundation and local organisations such as Sports Assemblies and rural Health Services. By participating in Build Your Game, clubs become ‘go to’ places in their communities for information and advice about good mental health and the links with responsible alcohol use.Build Your Game helps clubs develop a lasting and sustainable ability to recognise and support their own mental health needs over the long term.
