Alcohol misuse in the home impacts our children

14 May 2012

The Australian Drug Foundation is today calling for a better approach and further support for children living with parents who have alcohol or other drug issues.

Around 13 per cent of Australian children, under 12 years of age, live in a household where at least one adult misuses alcohol. While treatment and support options are available for parents, children can be the forgotten ones.

Burnie Netball Turns Blue for Mental Health

Burnie Netball Association will turn Blue on 28 April to raise awareness of depression and anxiety in the local community.

The Blue Round is part of their participation in the Good Sports, Good Mental Health – Build Your Game program, an initiative of the Australian Drug Foundation and supported by beyondblue: the national depression and anxiety initiative.

APC calls for tax reform in Federal Budget

A coalition of health agencies has called on the Federal Government to tackle one of the key drivers of alcohol overconsumption—price—by reforming alcohol taxation in this year‘s Federal Budget.

The Alcohol Policy Coalition (APC) is urging the Government to overhaul the incoherent tax system affecting alcohol pricing as there is strong evidence that this is one of the best ways to reduce overall consumption and alcohol-related harm.

Parndana Sports Club becomes an Island first

Parndana Sports Club recently became Kangaroo Island’s first sports club to become a Level 1 accredited club with the Australian Drug Foundation’s Good Sports program.
