Policy & Advocacy

Policy development and advocacy are integral to the work of the Australian Drug Foundation.

The role of the Policy Unit is:

  • to ensure that the policy foundations of the organisation are based on sound evidence and support all the ADF’s programs and services
  • to investigate alcohol and other drug issues and make recommendations for policy action based on a sound evidential footing
  • to work with policy makers and research staff in government and non-government organisations and settings to inform their policy and decision-making
  • to advocate for change through informing and mobilising key audiences
  • to implement and test policy initiatives in collaboration with other stakeholders and with particular communities.

Current policy program

The Policy Team is developing policy and advocating on the following issues:

Illicit Drugs

  • regulation
  • cannabis
  • supervised injecting rooms
  • drugs and young people

 

Alcohol

  • advertising
  • alcohol sponsorship of sport and cultural events
  • secondary supply of alcohol to minors
  • liquor licensing policy and reform
